Math Contest Program

(Gauss / Pascal / Cayley / Fermat / Euclid)

 

Why Choose This Program? 

Are you aiming to win an award or simply want to challenge yourself with Canada’s top math contests? This program offers targeted preparation for the University of Waterloo Mathematics Contests, designed to develop mathematical reasoning, strategic thinking, and confidence under timed pressure. Participating in these math contests is an excellent opportunity to showcase mathematical ability and can positively influence university admission, particularly to the University of Waterloo.

Program Structure

Weekly 120-minute sessions
Practice with contest-style questions and drills
Mock tests with personalized feedback
Strategies for time management and test-taking

Gauss Contest

  • Eligibility: Grades 7–8
  • Date: May
  • Format: 25 multiple-choice questions | 60 minutes
  • Content: Questions on the Gauss Contests are based on math curriculum common to all

Canadian provinces. The last few questions are designed to test ingenuity and insight. Rather than testing content, most of the contest problems test logical thinking and mathematical problem-solving.

  • Awards:
    • A Certificate of Participation is provided to each participant.
    • A Certificate of Distinction is awarded to participants scoring in the top 25% of all participants within their own school.
    • A Certificate of Outstanding Achievement is awarded to the highest-scoring participant in their school.

Pascal / Cayley / Fermat

  • Eligibility: Grades 9–11
  • Date: February
  • Format: 25 multiple-choice questions | 60 minutes
  • Content: Questions on the PCF Contests are based on curriculum common to all

Canadian provinces. Rather than testing content, most of the problems test logical thinking and mathematical problem-solving.

  • Awards:
    • A Certificate of Distinction is awarded to each participant who scores in the top 25% of all competitors.
    • úA Contest Medal is awarded to the top scorer at each school.

Euclid Contest

  • Eligibility: Grade 12
  • Date: March
  • Format: 10 short-answer and full-solution questions | 2.5 hours
  • Content: Most of the problems on the Euclid Contest are based on curricula up to and including the final year of secondary school. Some problems might require students to use knowledge beyond the curriculum in their school.

Awards:

  • A Certificate of Distinction is awarded to each participant who scores in the top 25% of all competitors.
  • A Contest Medal is awarded to the top scorer at each school.
